- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add seasoned beef chunks and brown them on all sides for 4-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, reduce heat to low and add sliced onions and minced garlic. Cook gently for about 30 minutes until golden and caramelized.
- Return the browned beef to the pot. Pour in white wine, scraping up browned bits. Add water to cover ingredients, cover, and simmer for 2 hours.
- About 15 minutes before serving, bring a pot of salted water to boil. Cook ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and reserve some pasta water.
- Add the cooked ziti to the pot with the beef and sauce. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water if needed for consistency. Serve hot, garnished with Parmesan and basil.
