  • 1 cup Raisins Soak in spiced rum
  • 1/2 cup Spiced Rum Optional alcohol-free flavoring
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, softened At room temperature
  • 1 cup Dark Brown Soft Sugar May substitute with light brown sugar
  • 2 large Medium Eggs, lightly beaten Room temperature for best results
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Use pure extract for best quality
  • 1 cup Self-Raising Flour Can substitute with all-purpose flour plus baking powder
For the Decoration
  • 1 cup Orange Fondant Icing resembling Kraken’s tentacles
  • 1/2 cup Yellow Fondant Icing Optional for an extra flair
For the Frosting
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter (for frosting), softened Should be softened well
  • 2 cups Icing Sugar, sifted For smooth frosting
  • 1 teaspoon Blue Food Colouring Gel For oceanic hues

Baking Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and prepare cupcake cases in a muffin tin.
  2. Cream the softened butter and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Add spiced rum, soaked raisins, eggs, and vanilla extract; mix on low until well combined.
  4. Fold in self-raising flour until just combined to avoid dense cupcakes.
  5. Fill cupcake cases two-thirds full and bake for 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Beat softened butter and sifted icing sugar until fluffy; add blue food coloring to desired hue.
  8. Frost each cooled cupcake generously with the blue buttercream, creating a wave-like effect.
  9. Shape orange and yellow fondant into tentacles and press onto frosted cupcakes for decoration.
