Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, combine 2 teaspoons of sugar, 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, and ¾ cup of lukewarm water. Stir gently and allow this mixture to sit for 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, ¼ cup of plain yogurt, and 2 tablespoons of oil or melted ghee. Mix until combined, then knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
  3. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and set it in a warm area for about 1 hour.
  4. Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each into a smooth ball. Flatten each ball into an oval shape, about 8 inches long.
  5. Preheat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat, lightly greasing it with oil. Place a rolled-out naan in the hot skillet, cooking for about 1 minute. Flip it over and cook for an additional minute.
  6. Mix together 3 tablespoons of melted butter and minced garlic in a small bowl. Once each naan is cooked, brush the garlic butter mixture over the hot bread.
