- Cream together 1 cup of softened butter with ¾ cup granulated sugar and ¾ cup brown sugar in a mixing bowl for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy. Add 2 eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, mixing for another 3 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and ½ teaspoon salt. Gradually mix this into the wet ingredients until combined.
- Divide the dough into three portions. Color two portions with orange and brown food coloring.
- Incorporate ⅓ of the chocolate chips into each portion of dough.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll 2 oz. portions of dough into balls and place them on a lined baking sheet.
- Lightly flatten each cookie ball and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden and centers are soft.
- Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
