Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together ½ cup of softened unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar using an electric mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  3. Beat in 2 large eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Divide the dough into equal portions based on the number of colors you’d like to create. Add a few drops of gel food coloring to each portion and mix thoroughly until the colors are evenly distributed.
  5. Cover the dough tightly with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Remove the dough from the fridge. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop out portions of the dough and roll them into balls about 1 inch in diameter.
  8. Roll each dough ball in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  9. Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12 minutes or until the edges are set and the centers look slightly soft.
  10. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
