Baking Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Gradually add the granulated sugar and then add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Add the milk, orange juice, vegetable oil, orange zest, and orange extract to the egg mixture, mixing until smooth.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients just until combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes and let them cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then turn them out to cool completely.
- Prepare the frosting by beating butter and cream cheese until smooth, then mix in vanilla, orange extract, salt, and powdered sugar.
- Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides to finish.
