Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk the room temperature egg whites on medium speed until foamy, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the cream of tartar; whisk until soft peaks form, about 2 minutes.
  4. Gradually add granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while increasing mixer speed. Whip for 8-10 minutes until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold in the vanilla extract and green gel food coloring gently.
  6. Transfer meringue to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe into tree shapes on prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Do not open the oven door.
  8. Turn off the oven and cool the meringues inside for 30 minutes with the door slightly ajar.
