- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 or 9x9 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ½ cup dark brown sugar, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, and ½ cup flour. Cut in 4 tablespoons of softened butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- In another large bowl, cream together ¾ cup softened butter and 1 cup of white sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Mix in 1 egg and 1 egg yolk, then gradually pour in 1 cup of warmed whole milk and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Slowly sprinkle in 1 teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon baking soda, ½ teaspoon salt, and 2 cups of flour. Stir gently until just incorporated.
